Edwards Cob Eco Buildings

Sustainable Cob Design

School workshops, outdoor classrooms and INSET days with Earthlings!

Welcome to our Earthlings workshops

Earthlings is our schools education arm of Edwards Eco Building - soley dedicated to delivering inspring, hands-on and creative learning around the subject of earth building. We've developed 6 exciting workshops for schools - all closely linked with all subjects across the curriculum.

With guidance from Ofsted, Forest Schools, advice from County Council Education advisors and with support from Norfolk County Council Environmental and Outdoor Learning Team, we've developed workshops that aren't just engaging, practical and fun but seamlessly linked with the curriculum.

Our 6 exiciting workshops...

1 Day Introduction to Earth Buidling Pupils learn about earth building locally and globally; how to source, mix, work and sculpt with the earth; and think about the differences between conventional building methods and earth building. Issues of sustainability are explored around manufacture, design and transportation of building materials. Pupils also explore social and political aspects of our built environment. The workshop links with history, geography, science, maths, english, PHSE, art & design.

2 day build an earthen oven workshop Over 2 days your pupils will design and build a permanent earthen pizza oven for your school grounds. Pupils will learn to source, mix and build with the earth. Issues of sustainability are explored and the workshop is linked with every subject across the curriculum. We also provide you with detailed and creative lesson ideas around the subject of earth building - including science experiments, drama and english ideas, maths problems, geography and history exercises and more.

2 day build a den workshop A 2 day workshop for KS1 and Early Years. We'll work with the children to build a den in your school grounds, made entirely of naturally materials they source themselves in the grounds - earth, twigs, clay....This exciting outdoor learning experience introduces children to earth building around the world and locally, issues of sustainability, soil science, habitats, basic maths and space problems, and much more.

Build an Outdoor Classroom With our help your pupils will design and build their own outdoor classroom or even classroom. It's the ultimate hands-on and inspiring experience linked with all subjects across the curriculum. Pupils are left with a beautiful, sustainable classroom they have built themsleves with the earth beneath their feet - a truly rewarding experience for all involved. We also love getting parents and the local community involved - we're experienced in facilitating everyone to build with the earth. An innovative, accessible and sustainable project like this could help your school engage even more with the community.
